Frac sand bill moving on to full Senate

Madison (WQOW) - A controversial bill about frac sand moves forward in Madison.

Today, the Senate's mining committee approved a bill that would prohibit local governments from imposing new regulations on sand mines.  The bill would bar them from imposing new zoning ordinances that are more restrictive than existing rules for operations.

Senator Kathleen Vinehout released the following statement, "This bill creates a legal quagmire for counties and towns who may not be able to stop a frac sand mine or regulate an existing mine.  People should express their opinion about this loss of local control."

The bill was approved by a vote of 3-to-2 and clears the way for a full vote in the Senate.
