20-year-old Eleva firefighter killed in snowmobile crash

Chippewa County (WQOW) - An area community is coming to grips with the loss of a well known young man, who was a firefighter.  

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department says Brandon Semingson from Eleva was killed in a snowmobile crash.  He was 20-years-old.

The crash happened late Friday night on a trail in the Town of Wheaton. According to the sheriff's department Semingson had been traveling with a group of three friends when he lost control and hit a tree.  They say speed and not being familiar with the trail appear to be factors in the crash. They do not believe alcohol was involved.

Brandon was a member of the Eleva Fire Department. The department says he was one of their hardest workers, who spent a lot of time at the fire station doing anything that needed to be done.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Eleva Lutheran Church.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the church, and also one hour before Wednesday's service.

Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home of Eleva is assisting the family.

The sheriff's department says the man who died is Brandon Semingson, from Eleva. 

The crash happened Friday night around 10:00 in the Town of Wheaton, on a trail near 50th Ave. and 90th St. According to the sheriff's department, Semingson had been traveling with a group of three friends when he lost control and hit a tree.

They say speed and not knowing the trail appear to be factors in the crash. They do not believe alcohol was a factor.

Chippewa Co. (News Release) - On 03-07-14 at 10:03 p.m., the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, Wisconsin DNR, and Chippewa Fire District Ambulance and Fire responded to a single snowmobile crash which resulted in the operator being fatally injured. It happened on a public trail in the Town of Wheaton, on a public trail northwest of 50th Ave. and 90th St.

The operator, a 20-year-old male, was traveling with a group of 3 other friends when he lost control and struck a tree. Victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Factors contributing to the crash appeared to be speed and unfamiliarity with trail. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The name of the victim has not been released yet.
