NEW INFORMATION: Former high school coach charged with sexually assaulting student


Cadott (WQOW) - Charges of sexual assault have now been filed against a former area high school coach.

Andrew Hungerholt was the head coach of the Cadott girls basketball team. He resigned last month. His position as a substitute teacher was also terminated. Now, he has been charged with sexual assault of a student.

According to the criminal complaint, Hungerholt, who is 30, had sexual contact with a 17-year-old student. Investigators say Hungerholt and the girl both said it happened in the parking lot of a rural Cadott bar and grill.

The charge against him carries a possible six year prison sentence. Hungerholt will have his first day in court next month.


News Release (Cadott Police Department) - On February 9th, 2014 the Cadott Police Department received information from the Cadott School District that Cadott Girls Basketball Coach Andrew L. Hungerholt resigned his position from coaching, citing personal reasons. Additional information surrounding Hungerholt's resignation led to an investigation revealing Hungerholt's physical involvement with a player on his team, who is under the age of 18.

Through investigating it was learned that there were several occasions when Hungerholt and the juvenile female had met in private, where according to interviews with both parties, the had kissed and had sexual contact in the juvenile's vehicle on at least one of those occasions in Chippewa County. Additional contact had occurred between the two in both Eau Claire and Fall Creek, according to Hungerholt and the juvenile.

Hungerholt will be referred to the Chippewa County District Attorney for Sexual Assault of a Student by a School Instructional Staff Person. The case will be referred to the Chippewa Co. District Attorney and is currently under investigation by the Cadott Police Department.


Chippewa Co. (WQOW) - The former Cadott girls basketball coach is being investigated for allegedly having sexual contact with a player.

Andrew Hungerholt resigned recently in his first year as head coach. The school district contacted police with concerns a week ago. Cadott police say they have been able to confirm that he had a relationship with a girl under the age of 18. He has not been arrested.

Police say they will recommend charges of sexual assault when they refer those to the Chippewa County district attorney.
