Turkey permit sales reduced due to winter deaths

Western Wisconsin (WQOW) - The extreme winter not only took a toll on Wisconsin deer, but turkeys too. And that's prompted the DNR to take action.

The DNR says the deep snow has made it difficult for turkeys to get to adequate food, and number of turkey deaths could be significant in some places.

Now, the DNR has put a halt to the sale of any more spring turkey permits in zones six and seven. That includes parts of Barron, Rusk, Washburn and Sawyer counties.

In addition, the number of turkey permits will be reduced by 25 percent for zones four and five. That includes Chippewa, Eau Claire, Dunn, and Pepin counties, and other counties to the west and north.
