Madison library holds birthday party for James Madison

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The community held a birthday party Saturday for our city's namesake, James Madison.

The event at Madison's Sequoya Library also celebrated the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, fought while President James Madison served as our fourth U.S. president.

Historians say we should honor Madison's legacy.

"The number of things that James Madison did is staggering," says Rolf Lindgren, who spoke at the event. "He wrote, co-authored the Federalist Papers, he wrote the Bill of Rights, he's the father of the Constitution, he was the president during the War of 1812, he was the secretary of state."

Those who attended also could participate in a trivia contest focused on James Madison and the War of 1812.
