Concerns raised after auction at downtown building

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Concerns are being raised after an auction at a downtown building.  The DNR says the former Kline's Department Store in Eau Claire was not tested for asbestos before the sale.

On Saturday, many things were auctioned off including ceiling tiles, wood flooring and light fixtures. The DNR says because those items are a part of the building, an asbestos inspection needed to be done.

At this point, the DNR says it's working to make sure an inspection is done. Regardless of the results, the owner of the building could face a fine anywhere from $500 to $5,000.

WQOW News 18 did speak with the owner of the building Thursday, who says she has documents that some asbestos was removed from the building back in 1998 and thought that information would be adequate. She says she's complying with the inspection.
