Eau Claire (WQOW) - The city is looking to purchase some waterfront property downtown and the price tag is more than $350,000.
The city is interested in buying the Charlson's store a piece of land on Madison street right next to the Chippewa River.
The plan is demolish the existing buildings and turn the land into a green space, eventually connecting it to the Chippewa River bike trail.
On Wednesday Eau Claire's Waterways and Parks commission will vote on whether or not to accept a grant from the Wisconsin DNR for half the price tag the city would then kick in the other half.
"We set aside some money for acquisitions when they come up during the year but $360,000 would take all that allocation plus a couple of more years," said Finance Director Rebecca Noland. "So this helps us leverage our money and get double the value for what we've put aside to match it."
The city council would have the final say on the purchase.
