Deputies investigating the crash found that a 1999 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling a loaded hopper-style trailer owned by Lucky Oats Farm of Grantsburg, WI was traveling southbound on STH 87 when a northbound 2002 Chrysler Pacifica lost control on snow covered roads and slid into the southbound traffic lane into the path of the semi.  The collision resulted in both vehicles coming to rest in the east ditch of STH 87.

Weather and road conditions are believed to be the primary factors in this crash.  This crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Polk County Medical Examiners Office, with assistance from the WI State Patrol, Motor Carrier Enforcement Unit, Northland Ambulance Service, and the Cushing Fire Department.
