MARSHFIELD (WKOW) -- Thousands of dollars are gone after police say a Marshfield man stole the money from his father's bank account and used most of it in a lottery scam.

According to our affiliate, WAOW, police say 74-year-old Delbert Weiler took about $170,000 from his 96-year-old father's bank account within a three year period without his permission.  But soon after, Weiler became a victim of scammers.  He sent a lot of the money to lottery scams from Nigeria and Australia.

Police say scams like that are common among people looking to get rich quick. Weiler heads to court next month to face his charges.
