Wisconsin Rapids (WQOW) - A picture may be worth a thousand apologies tonight for a Wisconsin mayor.
He's being accused of election fraud for posting a picture of his ballot on Facebook during the primary in February.
The post from Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Zach Vruwink says, "Vote cast, now bring on the results." State law says anyone who shows their marked ballot to someone else has committed election fraud. The mayor says he didn't know it was against the law and he's now learned his lesson.
"Certainly (I) then called the Government Accountability Board to self report and make them aware that yes, in fact, the photo had been taken down and (I) was not aware of the state law that had referenced that," said Vruwink.
A candidate for Wisconsin Rapids City Council filed a complaint against the mayor with the district attorney.
The mayor is running for re-election against a former mayor on Tuesday.
