Threat made on Snapchat closes Neillsville School District

Neillsville (WQOW) - Classes in Neillsville were canceled for the day when district officials became aware of a threat.

Superintendent John Gaier says just before 6 a.m. Thursday the school learned of the threat thanks to a parent. He says a parent told the district her child received a Snapchat of a potential threat at the school Thursday. Snapchat is a photo-sharing app.

The student received the Snapchat message late last night but did not share it with their parent until this morning.

The school sent out text message alerts and called parents to let them know school would be closed.

"Well it's certainly not something a person wants to hear in a small town and all that. But you do hear it all over and all we can hope is that it's a kid just trying to get some attention. John Gaier, the superintendent, he does a great job with the school, as do the entire staff. And we have a lot of confidence in them," said Tim Voigt, whose children attend the Neillsville School District.

The threat was handed off to the Neillsville Police Department, who is handling the investigation. The superintendent says classes will be held on Friday.

Neillsville (WQOW) - The School District of Neillsville is closed Thursday, March 27th due to a threat.

The Neillsville District Administrator, John Gaier, says he was contacted because a threat was made that did include the school. A student saw the threat Tuesday night on a social media site and took a picture if it and let the district know.

The Superintendent cannot comment on what the threat is right now, other than it was generic. Police are investigating the incident.

School is expected to be back in session Friday morning.

(WQOW)- The Neillsville School District is closed today, 3/27.

We are working to find out more information. We will post that here and on our Facebook and Twitter pages when we determine why the school closed.
