Altoona School District looking at referendum options

Altoona (WQOW) - A local school district is eyeing a potential November referendum.

Altoona is dealing with a space crunch.

One option would be to tear down part of the existing intermediate school and build a two-story addition.

Another option would be to build a 25-million dollar elementary school on land the district owns on County Highway KB.

That plan would also leave room for the middle and high schools to potentially relocate there at some point.

"It is a good problem to have," said Superintendent Connie Biedron. "But right now it's a problem of space and if we could build that new elementary school we would have all the space we need for many years to come."

The district will seek more public comment on the options before deciding on a possible referendum.
