Madison woman scammed out of $4,500

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A 70-year old Madison woman has been scammed out of $4,500 after scam artists convinced her she won $1 million in a Publishers Clearing House drawing.

Police say the woman was first contacted on Facebook on March 1st, and since then she has received numerous phone calls and text messages from the suspects.

They told her that before she could claim her prize, she must first pre-load MoneyPak cards.

The victim took out 10 cards and provided their security code numbers to the criminals.

It wasn't until she contacted the real Publishers Clearing House that she realized she was the victim of a scam.
