Senator Glenn Grothman announces candidacy for Congress

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) --- Senator Glenn Grothman announced his candidacy for the 6th Congressional District.

Here is his statement.

“Like all Americans, I am frustrated by a federal government that seems to be out of control at a time when by many standards our great country is in a state of decline. When looking at a federal debt that has risen to $17.5 trillion and an overall federal budget that has gone up by 68% since 2000. I, like others, am troubled about our country’s future.

“I am even more concerned about the massive trend towards government dependency. The number of people on FoodShare has gone from seventeen million as recently as 2001 to forty-seven million today. The number of people on disability has risen from five million people to almost nine million people in the last thirteen years, all while job safety has improved greatly.

“This rush towards government reliance has lead to the well-documented destruction of the American nuclear family, which will have severe, negative consequences for the next generation.

“The current congressman from the 6th District is a decent, genial person; nevertheless he does not have the sense of urgency which the above statistics should engender. While there are more things to do in Madison, again and again many of the problems require changes in federal law. Whether it be welfare reform, education reform, or fiscal responsibility, we need changes from Washington. The next six years will determine the fate of America. Congress and the nation are at a turning point, and we need a leader that will put America back on the right path.

“I will be filing a statement for candidacy later this week for the 6th Congressional District. I have represented forty communities throughout the 6th Congressional District in Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Dodge counties – some for over eighteen years. I look forward to meeting the voters of the remainder of the 6th district in the next months to persuade them to send me to represent them in our nation’s capitol.”

The 6th Congressional District includes the counties of Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Winnebago, Dodge, Green Lake, Manitowoc, Marquette, Columbia, Waushara, and Milwaukee. Click here to view a map of the 6th Congressional District.

Glenn Grothman is currently the Assistant Majority Leader of the Wisconsin State Senate, and has represented the 20th Senate District since 2005. He represented the 58th Assembly District from 1993 through 2004.
