Osseo (WQOW) -- The calendar might say Spring, but the weather does not. Osseo-Fairchild has its first game of the season postponed on Thursday.
Last season, the Thunder advanced to the WIAA state tournament for just the second time in program history. Head coach Matt Korger hopes that experience will fuel his squad this season.
"I think the main objective of the seniors last year was their work ethic. Those guys stayed after for practice, they stayed after for ground balls and stayed after for hitting. They showed the young guys how to do it and that success paid off with a playoff run. So hopefully our young guys learned from that last year and will hopefully continue that on this year. And hopefully the same thing happens again," says Korger.
Osseo-Fairchild returns five starters from last year's state squad. The players are once again hopeing their season ends at Fox Cities Stadium.
"We have a lot of guys coming back from that state team so we know what it takes to get down there and we'll take it one game at a time, improve every game, learn from our mistakes and keep getting better," says junior pitcher Luke Eide.
Senior outfielder Tyler Henke adds: "In baseball, anything can happen. We're a young team and I think that's going to pay off tremendously for us. We have a lot of guys who can play multiple positions and that's going to be key coming down into the postseason."
The Thunder's next scheduled game is Tuesday against Elk Mound.
