Tax preparers busy filing returns as deadline nears

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The deadline to reach Uncle Sam for a tax return is nearing.

With just one week left to file your federal and state tax returns tax preparers have been busy tending to last-minute applications. This year's tax season started just over a week late compared to last year's filing date.

Stephanie Lauterbach, the owner of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service on South Hastings Way said the delay has caused a constant rush of customers coming in to seek professional tax help. "This year's it's been good. A lot of people not trying to do their returns themselves because with all the tax law changes and the Affordable Care Act, more things coming down the pike, people are more leery to try and do it themselves," Lauterbach said.

The deadline to file your 2013 taxes is April 15. It is also the deadline to pay back to the Internal Revenue Service if you owe any money.
