UPDATE: Suspect in 1997 Racine homicide in court for first time
RACINE (WKOW) -- An Illinois man accused of a 1997 Racine homicide made his first court appearance Wednesday.
36-year-old James Eaton is charged with killing 14-year-old Amber Creek and leaving her body in a Racine County Marsh.
His bail was set at $500,000. Racine County District Attorney Rich Chiapete requested a high bail for Eaton, saying he hid from the law for more than 17 years.
"She had a bite mark on her neck that was so significant that it was a major and primary cause of her death in this case. For someone to inflict this kind of pain and suffering on this individual, they certainly intended to do what they did here," said Chiapete.
Eaton was linked to the murder earlier this year when investigators say they matched his fingerprints to those found on the plastic bag that was used to suffocated Creek 17 years ago.
