Summer gas price prediction -- $3.57/gallon

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (WKOW) -- Drivers will see a little relief at the gas pump this summer, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration predicts the national average price will be $3.57 per gallon between April and September, the months when Americans do most of their driving.

That's a little cheaper than current gas prices in the Madison area (as of Tuesday, April 8). shows the average price is about $3.59 per gallon. The average across Wisconsin is about $3.64 per gallon.

The predicted price would be the lowest average since 2010. For the year, officials expect gasoline to average $3.45 per gallon, down from $3.51 last year and also the lowest since 2010.

U.S. energy officials say supplies are growing faster than world demand, because of higher production in North and South America.

The price of Brent crude, a benchmark used to price oil used by many U.S. refineries, is forecast to fall four percent this year.
