Stave out for Spring, Gillins getting reps

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) - Wisconsin quarterback Joel Stave did not practice Tuesday and has been shut down for the rest of spring. Stave is working his way back from a shoulder injury that knocked him out of the Capital One Bowl on January 1.

With Stave out, Tanner McEvoy, Bart Houston and D.J. Gillins will get plenty of reps in Wisconsin's Spring Game on Saturday. Gillins is a true freshman out of Florida, who enrolled at UW early. He's a dual threat QB, who says the toughest part of the college game is adjusting to audibles.

While the starting quarterback position is still Stave's to lose, the other three QBs can certainly close the gap with a quality performance on Saturday. The Spring Game is Saturday, April 12 at 3pm at Camp Randall Stadium.
