Barron County Sheriff warns of scam

Posted:

Barron County (News Release) -  The Barron County Sheriff's Dept has received over a dozen reports during the past 6 hours(12p-6p) today of someone posing as a member of the Barron County Sheriff's Dept or an association assisting the Sheriff's Dept in raising funds for different programs from DARE to seat belt checks.

The caller will claim that the money will stay in Barron County.

The caller will also ask you if you want to donate to the organization and will stop by and pick up the check or cash at your business or house so you don't have to mail it. Do not give them your address.

If someone does show up at your house to collect please call 911. At this time we have no reports of anyone showing up at any house or businesses but the callers have claimed that they will.

This is a scam and do not give money to this organization. The Sheriff's Dept is not affiliated with these calls and we will not call you and ask for money for our programs. A suggestion to get them to quite calling or tell them you are not interested and tell them that you give locally already.

Please report any incidents of this to the Barron County Sheriff's Dept at 715-537-3106.
