Crews battle brush fire on Eau Claire's north side

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The fire danger continues to climb in western Wisconsin and Wednesday afternoon, flames were spotted on Eau Claire's Heritage Drive.

Crews say a grass fire there was fueled by the dry and warm weather. It happened just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters say they are not sure what caused the fire to start, but are looking into it.

Our reporter on scene says about two acres burned before the fire was put out.

On Wednesday, the DNR bumped the fire danger to 'high' in Eau Claire, Pepin and Clark counties. And it's now listed as 'very high' in Buffalo, Trempealeau and Jackson counties.

Strong winds combined with warm temperatures and low humidity to raise the fire risk. The DNR says there is a lot of dead grass and vegetation that could fuel wildfires
