10 acres burned in grass fire near Mondovi

Mondovi (News Release) - Township Fire Department responded to a report of a grass and wildland fire at S8001 South Road in the township Brunswick.

Homeowner reported the fire after noticing grass was burning in and around a rubbish pile that the homeowner had been burning last weekend.

Due to the low humidity, warmer temperatures and higher winds the pile had rekindled.

Approximately 10 acres of grass and woodland undergrowth burned. Township requested and received assistance from the DNR in use of the airplane for survelience in size up and extinguishment.

A DNR bulldozer was also requested and created a safety perimeter around the burned area as a measure to contain the fire. Township was assisted also by surrounding fire departments from Mondovi, Rock Creek and Elk Mound.

Fire was under control after a couple of hours and all units were clear by 8:30pm.

Residents should use caution as fire conditions can change quite rapidly even though areas still have some snow cover.

Please contact your local fire service for the latest burning regulations and conditions.
