Police set up sting, recover stolen $13,000 bracelet

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police set up a sting and recover a stolen $13,000 diamond bracelet.

Police say the bracelet had been stolen from Rogers & Hollands Jewelers at the West Towne Mall in January.

The bracelet showed up on Craigslist a short time later, with someone trying to sell it for $3,100.

A Western District Community Police Team member, posing as a buyer, arranged to meet the seller at a parking lot near Verona Road.

When they met, the officer gave a signal and other officers moved in and arrested 40-year old Montolen Long, of Madison.

Long claimed to have purchased the diamond bracelet from someone else, but was arrested for receiving stolen property.

The bracelet has since been returned to Rogers & Hollands.
