Mueller named Big Ten Player of the Week

Posted: Updated:
After a record-setting week, Wisconsin softball player Michelle Mueller was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Mueller, a senior from La Crosse, Wis., played a big part in UW’s perfect week as she hit four home runs and recorded 18 RBI as the Badgers swept a doubleheader against North Dakota to begin the week before earning a conference sweep of Illinois last weekend. The third basemen also hit .600, earned an on-base percentage of .588 during the week and a slugging percentage of 1.533.
In UW’s 17-1 win over North Dakota in the second game of their doubleheader on Wednesday, Mueller hit a grand slam, the first of her career, and also recorded seven RBI as the Badgers tied a school record with 17 runs in a single game.
Mueller continued her hot streak into UW’s second game of a doubleheader against Illinois, as the senior hit three consecutive home runs and collected eight RBI, setting a UW record for most RBI in a single contest. Mueller's three consecutive home runs are tied for the second-most in NCAA history, and her three home runs in a single game tied the school record.
This marks the second time Mueller has been honored by the Big Ten, as she earned the weekly accolade on March 11, 2013.
Mueller and the Badgers face Green Bay in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Goodman Diamond. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m., and the games will air on BTN.
