JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- A state program designed to train workers with disabilities for jobs in the retail sector graduated five program participants in Janesville.
Officials say the workers in REDI (Retail Employees with Disabilities Initiative) emerged from an intensive, four week training, involving classroom and on-the-job sessions.
Walgreens partners with the state department of workforce development in the job training program. Community Solutions of WI. LLC contracts with the state to provide job developers, coaches, and mentors for REDI.
49-year old Sally Stitt of Beloit graduated from the job training program, and is an applicant for a job at a Walgreens store. Stitt says she's been unemployed for over a year, but is hopeful of being hired. REDI officials say program graduates are given priority in Walgreens' applicant pool, and the skills learned make them attractive as hires for other jobs in the retail industry.
