GRANDVIEW, Mo. (WKOW) -- A suspect is in custody after a string of random highway shootings in the Kansas City area.

Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte wouldn't identify the suspect, but says he'll discuss the case further at a news conference Friday. Police have been searching the man's home and a green Dodge Neon with Illinois license plates was towed away from the scene.

"Residents are safe. We have a person in custody," Chief Forte said Thursday night. "That person has not been charged."

Last week, police said they had connected 12 shootings since early March. Vehicles were targeted on Kansas City-area highways and roads.

One person was killed and another hurt Monday in a shooting on one of those highways. But police say they believe that was an isolated incident and not part of the other shootings that occurred in the past month.
