Fiery election debate on tap for Capitol City Sunday

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Earlier this week, Scott Walker declined an opportunity to confirm that he would serve all four years of a second term as Governor.

Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison) says that should absolutely be a campaign issue for Democrats.

"We want a Governor who can commit to the state.  If you can't commit to four years, you shouldn't be running for Governor," said Rep. Taylor.

Republican Party of Wisconsin Vice-Chair Brian Schimming disagrees with that entire premise.

"Look, I think Scott Walker's gonna serve all four years of a second term," said Schimming.

Both Rep. Taylor and Schimming are the featured guests on Capitol City Sunday this weekend.  They will talk about not only the keys to the Governor's race, but also the 99 State Assembly and 17 Senate seats up for election.

"I feel confident we're gonna hold those (open GOP seats) and we might even pick up a seat as well.  So, I feel confident we're gonna hold the State Senate, but, its why we have elections," said Schimming.

"Our focus in the State Assembly is being very disciplined, very strategic, very targeted," said Rep. Taylor.

Dane County Veterans Service Officer Dan Connery is also on the show to talk about the new online claims process the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is switching to next year.  It would be a centralized, online system that would change the way benefits are handled.  Instead of veterans having claims processed by an office in the state where they live, they would be evenly distributed to VA offices across the country.

"The average may drop down, the national average, but in states such as Wisconsin and other regional offices throughout the United States that have good productivity and efficiency levels, the average will increase," said Connery.

We'll also have some tips for veterans who are thinking about filing claims and how they can do it to make sure it goes as quickly as possible.

Capitol City Sunday airs at 9:00 a.m. on WKOW 27.
