Performance group from Selma, Ala. coming to Eau Claire
Eau Claire (WQOW) Zorn Arena is home to graduation ceremonies, sporting events and concerts. This Friday, a group of students from Selma, Ala. will put on a performance of a different kind.
The Freedom Foundation coordinates the Random Acts of Theater Company, or RATCo. It is a group of students from Selma, Ala. who dance, read poetry and perform theater acts to help them become leaders and work through personal issues such as poverty, losing a parent or sexual abuse. The performance is sponsored in part by the Civil Rights Pilgrimage. Head coordinator Jodi Thesing-Ritter said the performance is an opportunity for Eau Claire and the surrounding area to see at-risk youth turning their lives around through positive energy.
"RATCo will put on a phenomenal performance of dance and spoken word and they'll also help to shine a spotlight on racism and segregation that exists today and they're going to share their stories and be an inspiration to those people who will be here in the audience and hopefully help us to see how we can make change in our own communities," she said.
