Tornado drill sounds the alarm on broken sirens in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Thursday's tornado drill was not only important for you to practice what to do when severe weather strikes, it was also a good test for the city, and Eau Claire has some work to do. The director of the Eau Claire Emergency Center told WQOW News 18 that three of 20 sirens in the city failed Thursday.

The siren at Melby Street and N. Hastings did not work. The city says it was aware of that problem.   The siren along Highland Avenue near Immaculate Conception School did not activate and the one along Balcom Street near Longfellow Elementary had little or no sound.

The city has notified the manufacturer to begin repairs and expects all three to be in working order for the next text on May 5.
