Amazing Eau Claire Clean Up aids in decreasing yearly pick-up efforts

Local parks and trails received a face-lift today, thanks to the help of hundreds of volunteers.

More than 200 area volunteers participated in the Amazing Eau Claire Clean Up. The community effort started in 2008 as an opportunity for volunteers to help keep city parks and trails clean by picking up trash.

Over the years, Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry said the amount of garbage they find has declined.

Marybeth Berry, the volunteer coordinator at the Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry said, "The trash has gotten less and less over the years. As we keep doing the program, we've noticed that areas are staying clean and so it's a reflection on the work of our volunteers and the efforts that they are doing."

Lisa Hutchens, from Eau Claire, said, "Not too bad this year, but a lot of cigarette butts, that's gross. It's nice to cleanup our neighborhoods and give it a safe place for our kids and families, those with pets."

Eau Claire Parks and Recreation said efforts like this one helps create a clean space before the summer season hits.
