We checked in with a local winery to see what kind of an impact there was. River Bend Winery in Chippewa Falls has been out tending to its vines, and so far things look ok thanks to special hybrid grapes designed to handle cold winters.
“When we first planted this vineyard, we only planted the most cold hearty vines available,” said owner and winemaker Donna Sachs. “We knew being as far north as we are that they were the only ones that could put in the ground here.”
Sachs says that while the health of a vine coming out of winter is important, the biggest factor is how healthy vines are going into winter.
