Badgers muster only 2 hits in 10-1 loss to No. 6 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After defeating No. 6 Michigan, 9-3, on Friday night, the Wisconsin softball team was unable to replicate the feat on Saturday, falling to the No. 6 Wolverines, 10-1 in six innings at the Wilpon Complex.

Wisconsin only picked up two hits on the night, as Michelle Mueller and Ashley Van Zeeland were the lone Badgers to earn hits off of Michigan starter Megan Betsa. Betsa allowed only one run while picking up 10 strikeouts and retired the final 10 Wisconsin batters. The Badgers left six on base during the contest, leaving the bases loaded in the first and third innings.

Michigan grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning, scoring its first run on a sac fly and its second on a Wisconsin error.

Wisconsin countered, loading the bases in the top of the third as Van Zeeland’s bunt to the pitcher scored Mueller from third.

However, Michigan tallied three runs in the bottom of the third to grab a 5-1 lead. After Romero scored off a Blanchard double, Michigan loaded the bases and scored two runs on a bloop double to left.

Michigan tacked on five runs in the bottom of the sixth to run-rule the Badgers as Taylor Hasselbach hit a two-run blast to end the contest.

Cassandra Darrah gave up 10 runs, nine earned, on 13 hits while striking out two.

Wisconsin and Michigan wrap up their series on Sunday with a noon contest.
