JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Janesville Police say the body found Monday is 21-year-old Britney Cross. Police say it is a homicide and that Clayton Courtney is the lone suspect in the case.
Friends of Clayton Courtney and Britney Cross refer to the two as boyfriend and girlfriend.
Police will not say the exact location where Britney was killed. They do say the cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head. Police have confiscated numerous items which may or may not be the weapon used.
Police say Courtney is believed to have taken alcohol and cocaine the night Britney was killed. There is no determination as to his motive in the homicide.
Sunday night when Courtney returned to his apartment, before attacking his roommate, he made the statement: "I killed three people tonight". His roommate was stabbed several times and has now been released from the hospital. He is cooperating with police and says he has no idea why Courtney attacked.
Sunday, after a foot chase and apprehension, police say Courtney immediately asked for his attorney by name. Under law, officers were able to speak with Courtney again in reference to the statement of killing people. Officers were asking about possible victims, but Courtney refused to cooperate.
Courtney made a court appearance in Rock County via video conference Tuesday on charges in connection to the stabbing, including the charge of attempted first degree intentional homicide. A court commissioner set Courtney's bail at $100,000, noting Courtney had talked of having killed three people. Courtney's next court appearance is May 9.
Officers have Courtney's vehicle, 1998 blue Dodge Dakota extended cab with rear bumper damage, in custody and are asking anyone who has seen it over the past several days to contact Janesville Police at 608-755-3100 and give details as to where and when it was seen.
Cross' mother, Tracy Cross, tells 27 News her daughter was "happy, trusting," and recovering from drug addiction. Cross says she was concerned Courtney was possessive of her daughter. She says when Courtney picked up her daughter Sunday night, she believed they were going out for drinks.
Janesville officers are also searching for missing 75-year-old woman, Mary Coulthard, and have not ruled out any possible connection with Courtney being involved.

JANESVILLE (WKOW) --- Janesville Police will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. to release the preliminary results of the autopsy on the body found Monday near the Rock River. They also say that stabbing suspect, Clayton Courtney will be mentioned in the update.
Courtney war arrested for a near-fatal stabbing in Janesville. Police on Monday said Courtney told them he was involved in other deaths, but they have not yet confirmed he is connected to the body found.
Police say they now have an identity of the body found and will also release that information.
