5-year-old Chippewa Falls boy collecting life jackets in honor of friend
Chippewa County (WQOW) - Collecting 500 life jackets in 60 days; it's a challenge a 5-year-old ChippewaFalls boy is determined to accomplish.
At just 5, Jacob Krager knows what it is to experience loss. Jacob's best friend, Jacob Schultz, died last year in a drowning accident on LakeAltoona.
Jessica Krager, Jacob’s mom, says, "We joke that, my husband and I, that they were best friends from the day they had to share the same name." Jacob Schultz had a life jacket but wasn't wearing it that day. In his memory, his best friend is setting out to collect 500 life jackets. "And place them at all the various beaches so when the kids come to swim, there's always life jackets there," explains Jessica.
His mission is to make sure every kid has one... But also wears it. Jacob Schultz's family was there to see the very first donation. Jessica says, "We are actually very proud that he's taken a very traumatic experience in his life and make it something positive."
The family even gave Jacob something to remember his best friend by. "She (Jacob Schultz’s mom) gave Jacob, her Jacob's life jacket and wanted to have Jacob to have it in honor of what he's doing and his best friend," explains Jessica.
Jacob Shultz's mom told WQOW News 18 her son's life jacket couldn't have gone to a more deserving boy.
