According to the criminal complaint Rachel Goodpaster is accused of diverting money from her 98-year-old mother's Social Security and Ho-Chunk Nation payments into her own bank account.
The discovery was made when the nursing home Goodpaster's mother was staying at contacted the department of human services because Goodpaster was not paying her mother's bills.
According to court documents Goodpaster says she was pressured to use the money to help her son and other family members pay for day to day expenses like cell phone bills.
In the complaint Goodpaster admitted what she did was wrong but the pressure from her family “kept eating at me and eating at me and I couldn’t stop.”
She faces up to ten years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
