Tuesday, the Eau Claire City Council voted to postpone awarding a design contract.
The ramp would be built where the post office is downtown. It would be used primarily by RCU and JAMF software employees during the week.
Some city council members question if the city has enough money set aside this year specifically to cover the cost of designing the structure, a price tag of 400-thousand dollars. The city manager said the money is available through tax increment financing.
“The question for here and now is what is the status of the financing of this,” said council member Dave Duax. “I don't see in our documents that are available to us the appropriation that we would have voted on and had knowledge of last November,” he added.
“If there's $180,000 here and I can even buy that there was $100,000 of something else appropriated that still doesn't equal 404,000 so I’m wondering where it's coming from?” asked council member Monica Lewis.
A decision on a design contract could be made at the next council meeting.
