Height restrictions relaxed on Eau Claire's Water Street

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The future of an historic Eau Claire street is no longer up in the air. Height restrictions on Water Street were relaxed last night by the city council.

The council voted to allow developers on the 200 block to apply for a four-story permit. Those buildings could be up to 60 feet high.

Until now, buildings on the 200, 300 and 500 blocks of Water Street were limited to three stories and 35 feet. The council voted to raise the limit to 45 feet for three stories. That would allow space for underground parking on those three blocks. Also, height restrictions will not change for the block considered to be the most historic, the 400 block of Water Street.
