UW-Whitewater wrestling coach suspended

Posted: Updated:
WHITEWATER (WKOW) -- The head wrestling coach at UW-Whitewater has been suspended following an investigation into a recruit for the wrestling team.

UW-Whitewater Chancellor Richard Telfer sent a note to campus staff members, saying that he was notified Monday that the Whitewater Police Department is investigating an incident involving an adult-aged recruit for the wrestling team. Telfer said he could not release details of the incident because of the ongoing investigation.

Telfer says he placed wrestling coach Tim Fader on paid administrative suspension on Tuesday because of his concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident and the possibility that NCAA rules and university policies and procedures may have been violated.

Telfer says he also suspended all wrestling recruitment activities, effective immediately.

In addition, Chancellor Telfer says he ordered an internal investigation into the recruitment practices for wrestling.
