Chippewa Valley Free Clinic expands patient eligibility

Eau Claire (News Release) – Chippewa Valley Free Clinic is expanding its patient eligibility. Those who have a household income at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines are now eligible to receive healthcare services at the clinic.

Until recently, the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic offered services to those with a household income at or below 185% of federal poverty guidelines. “Our board recently voted to increase eligibility to those who are at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines, so that we are consistent with patient eligibility levels at surrounding free clinics in the area and ensure that we are helping all those who have financial difficulties,” said Maribeth Woodford, executive director, Chippewa Valley Free Clinic. “Expanded eligibility is a positive change that will help many people in our region.”

The new healthcare environment has also sparked this change in eligibility. The changes in healthcare standards have caused some of our patients to move around. Some patients will enter the insurance marketplace or obtain coverage through Badgercare but others will be dropped from these programs. Unfortunately these programs are not fully inclusive therefore there are still people excluded and seeking healthcare. By expanding eligibility the Free Clinic seeks to provide healthcare resources for all of those who have been excluded from other programs or do not have the financial resources to pay the fees associated with healthcare insurance options. This change is a positive one for our entire community as the Free Clinic seeks to continuously fill unmet needs and gaps in our healthcare system.
