Wisconsin adds 91,678 jobs in first three years under Gov. Walker

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- If Gov. Scott Walker (R-Wisconsin) is going to fulfill his 2010 campaign promise of creating 250,000 new private sector jobs during his first term in office, he would need the state's employers to add 158,322 jobs in 2014.

The Wisconsin Dept. of Workforce Development put out an early release of the state's fourth quarter jobs numbers for 2013 Thursday afternoon, which show the state added a total of 28,006 jobs last year.  That represents a growth rate of 1.2 percent.

Adding the 28,006 jobs from last year to the totals for 2011 (29,800) and 2012 (33,872) brings the state's three-year total to 91,678.

Wisconsin will submit those 2013 fourth-quarter numbers to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for the agency's Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages release in June.

QCEW statistics are considered to be the most reliable by Gov. Walker, because they are based on reports compiled by 95 percent of employers.  The monthly jobs reports released by BLS represent only a three percent sample of all employers.

Wisconsin has consistently ranked in the bottom-third of the QCEW rankings since Gov. Walker took office in 2011.

*This story was corrected from an earlier version which put WI three year job total at 90,088
