Express Discuss Upcoming Season

Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The Eau Claire Express open up the 2014 season one week from Tuesday.

It will be the team's tenth season in the Northwoods League. Eau Claire will host the Lakeshore Chinooks in the opener on May 27th. The team is currently putting the finishing touches on its 2014 roster, but as always, that's a challenging proposition with various college teams still playing.

"Now starting a day after Memorial Day, I hope that they travel in on the 25th, 26th so we can play on the 27th. For us to have an actual practice or for people to get here in Eau Claire in time is going to be a really a struggle. It's a struggle for us to at least get to know each other. To be honest with you, I'll probably see them at at three o'clock at batting practice opening day and that's when they'll get their uniform and everything else. It's kind of what I'm banking on. I'm hoping we have about 15 players, 16 players here and just strap it on and go."

As the team has done in the past, the Express will have a few guys on temporary contracts to start the season. McDonell Central High School grad Andy Davis will join Eau Claire. Davis played for the Cavaliers this past summer. He just finished his junior season at St. Scholastica where he finished with an 8-3 record with a 2.48 earned run average.
