Carson Park entrance could look different in future

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Coming into Carson Park from Lake Street is going to look quite a bit different in a few years.

The City of Eau Claire is in the early stages of planning a reconstruction of the Carson Park causeway.

The current road is deteriorating and paths to the water for fishing have created erosion issues on the bank.

Early plans call for raising the bridge to allow easier access under it, widening the road to add bike lanes and adding designated areas for fishing.

“We have minimalist roadway and a minimalist entrance into one of the best parks in west central Wisconsin,” said city engineer Dave Solberg. “We have the chance to really make it into something of significance and of benefit to not only the park, but the residents that use it."

Grants are expected to cover up to 80-percent of the estimated one million dollar price tag. Construction on the new causeway would not start until 2017
