Jerry Gallagher leaving WQOW, moving with family to Iowa

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Longtime WQOW Anchor and Assistant News Director Jerry Gallagher is leaving Eau Claire after 12 years.

Gallagher started in 2002 after coming from a station in Sioux City, Iowa.  He will be moving back to Iowa to take a job as a news anchor at KWWL in Waterloo.  KWWL is owned by the same company (QNI or Quincy Newspapers, Inc.) that owns WQOW.

Gallagher issued the following statement about the move:

"This was a great opportunity for my wife and I to move closer to family.   We did not know much about the Eau Claire area 12 years ago, but came to know it as a community that prides itself on family and fun.  We feel so lucky that we landed here.   We've forged friendships with so many people that we will cherish forever.   All four of our children were born here.  We are proud to say they will always call themselves 'Eau Claire natives.'"

"I would like to thank WQOW for the past 12 years.  This station has been filled with hard-working, community-minded, compassionate journalists and I've been fortunate to work alongside each and every one.  I am so proud of the work we've done investigating new issues in our community, topics like the Confluence Project, frac sand and Common Core.  These are topics that take time to research behind the scenes and then present on air.  I am grateful for the leadership at WQOW, which has given these emerging issues the time and space they deserve."

"Finally, thank you to all of our loyal viewers.  I have met many of you over the years and am so appreciative for your input, words of encouragement and your passion for local news.  Without you, none of this would've been possible.  Thank you!"

Gallagher's last day with WQOW will be June 20th.

Please feel free to share your best wishes here and we'll pass those along to him!
