WIthee man charged with trying to skin and kill his dog
Clark Co. (WQOW) - A man is facing a felony animal mistreatment charge after authorities say he tried to skin and kill his dog.
Last month, EMTs responded to the home of Charles Weissmiller, 66, in Withee because authorities say he had intentionally cut off a part of his body. While there, officers noticed blood in the kitchen and living room, two knives and a garbage container with multiple pieces of fur in it.
That same day, a dog was brought to a veterinarian in Owen that had appeared to have been injured, possibly in a vehicle crash. The dog had a cut to the right side of its lower jaw, neck and chest area.
Weissmiller's neighbor told police that on two occasions, they brought Charles' dog back to his house because it had gotten loose. Officers noted that the fur found in Weissmiller's garbage container looked similar to the dog that was brought to the vet in Owen.
When officers asked Weissmiller about the dog, authorities say he admitted that he tried to skin his dog alive because he didn't want her anymore. He reportedly told investigators that his plan was to kill her by cutting her fur off.
Authorities say the dog has had surgery and as of May 17 was still at the veterinarian, battling a fever and needing antibiotics.
