Local event during free fishing weekend provides anglers a chance to cast bait at no cost

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - Anglers who haven't purchased their fishing license yet can take a free pass starting Saturday.

Saturday is the kick off to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource’s free fishing weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, you can fish without a license.

In recognition of this event, the Chippewa Valley Family YMCA and the DNR are providing free instructions and fishing materials to help cast the free efforts a little further.

Kyle Beach, from the Chippewa Valley Family YMCA in Chippewa Falls, said, "We had a lot of success last year we saw alot of feedback from the community of people wanting to get out into the community, maybe some people needing a little help, a little refresher on those basic skills, so we wanted to make it an annual event and really bring people out on Wisconsin's free fishing weekend."

Free worms as bait and free lessons on how to clean and cook fish will be provided at Marshall Park in Chippewa Falls on Saturday from 12pm-4pm.

This weekend, there are also free entry to state parks and trails.
