Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - Dozens of area swimmers had a chance to rise and shine with a former Olympic swimmer.
70 students took part in a swim clinic at the YMCA in Chippewa Falls on Saturday morning. They learned how to improve their technique from Olympic swimmer, Ian Crocker. Ian has won gold medals in the Sydney games in 2000 and the U.S.A Medley Relay in 2004 and 2008. While he no longer competes, Crocker said he enjoys passing his passion for swimming onto others through coaching.
"I think one of the main messages I try to give kids is that, you know, the people that are successful in any realm of life, it's not necessarily special about that person. It's the fact that most people give up on the way to their dream. And the people that make it are just the people that didn't give up. And so, I think that's a story that I can share from my experience with a sport, and hopefully they can apply that to all their goals, however diverse those goals might be."
The cost for each student was $65, which went toward bringing Ian to Chippewa Falls. Since this year's clinic was a successful turnout, the YMCA said it wants to hold another one next year and possibly bring in two Olympians.
