Weather delays state track and field championships for second day

LA CROSSE, WI (WKOW) -- Weather once again delayed the state track and field championships in La Crosse, as day two wrapped up the finals competitions.

Competition began at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, but after only one event was suspended due to severe weather. Five and a half hours later, competition resumed.

In division three, Cuba City took first in the 800 meter relay, while Jen Wellnitz of Black Hawk won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.54 seconds.

Mount Horeb won the boys 800 meter relay in division two.

Madison Memorial senior Daurice Fountain, the defending champion in the division one boys 110 meter hurdles, finished first Saturday with a time of 14.05 seconds, setting a new state record and beating the previous mark of 14.09 seconds. Fountain took second in the boys 300 meter hurdles.
