LAS VEGAS (WKOW) -- Authorities say two police officers were ambushed while eating lunch at a Las Vegas pizza restaurant.

ABC News reports Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie said at a news conference Sunday it's not yet known why the two were targeted. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers have been identified as Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31. Both were hit at point-blank range but one was able to return fire.

"It's a tragic day, it's a very, very difficult day," Gillespie said. "We still have a community to protect. But we will do it with our heads held high. It is truly a tragic day."

Officials say after shooting the officers, the suspects-- a man and a woman-- walked across the street and shot another person at the Walmart nearby. The two then killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact.

"I am devastated by the news today of two officers and an innocent bystander who were murdered in an act of senseless violence," Gov. Brian Sandoval said in a statement. "My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families."

One of the suspects reportedly yelled "This is a revolution" but the motive of the shooting remains under investigation.
