Eau Claire chiropractor charged with sexually assaulting a patient

Eau Claire (WQOW)- An Eau Claire chiropractor is accused of sexually assaulting a patient and other women are coming forward with similar claims.

Doctor Jeremy Stender, the owner of Wolter Chiropractic Clinic in Eau Claire, has been charged with second degree sexual assault.
According to a criminal complaint, as many as five women claim Doctor Stender made un-wanted sexual advances.

The sexual assault charge stems from an incident in which a patient of Doctor Stender alleges she was sexually assaulted during an appointment. The woman claims that she visited Stender's office in 2012 and that the treatments she was receiving required her to lie on a stretching table and Doctor Stender would secure her ankles to the table with straps. The patient claims Stender touched her inappropriately, and being strapped down, she could do nothing about it. She told police that afterward Stender told her, "It would be his word against her word".

When police approached Doctor Stender he denied ever being inappropriate with the patient and claims she owes a large balance and that her accusation is financially motivated. Police say a review of patient records shows that the woman's insurance paid for all office visits.

Police also obtained records from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, showing past complaints against Stender. The records revealed a 2008 complaint that Stender made sexual comments to an employee. A 2011 complaint alleged that Stender was having a sexual affair with a patient. It was eventually dismissed because of insufficient evidence.

Doctor Stender is being represented by attorney Rich White. News 18 did reach out to White for comment, but have not heard back.
Stender was released on a signature bond and a judge has ordered that during appointments with female patients a chaperone must be in the room.
