Edgewood takes runner-up again at boys state team tennis

Posted: Updated:
MADISON, WI (WKOW) --     The Madison Edgewood boys tennis team knows what it's like to play for a state title. What they don't know, is what it's like to bring home the championship. The Crusaders have finished runner-up five times in school history. Still, the hope remained that they could end the drought Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Edgewood beat Regis Saturday morning in the division two semi-finals to advance to take on defending champion University School of Milwaukee. The Wildcats had won seven of the last eight championships.

Edgewood freshman Cecil Lingard lost 6-2, 6-2 to USM's Kai Sane in the number one singles match.

It was the number two doubles team of Zach Schneck and Andrew Buchanan which sealed the deal for the Wildcats, beating the Crusaders' Noah Colletti and Thomas Thelen in three sets.

With the 4-0 victory over Edgewood, University School clinched their ninth team title in eleven years.
